These are the 24 ribbons that are authorized by the Chief of Naval Education and Training; other ribbons earned from different organization (other JROTC units, veteran's organizations, etc.) as well as those created by the company, may also be worn, when prescribed by the NSI.


1. Meritorious Achievement-
Awarded as earned to any cadet who has distinguished himself by outstanding meritorious achievement as determined by the NSI and approved by the NJROTC Area Four Manager on a case-by-case basis. The awards may be based on a series of meritorious service to the unit or community or a single qualifying act. Any cadet may make nominations for this award to the NSI.

2. Honor Unit - Awarded as earned to each cadet in good standing in the unit during the academic year in which the unit has qualified as an Honor Naval School and has been so designated by CNET.

3. Distinguished Cadet - Awarded annually to the one cadet in each Naval Science year group who has the highest combined average of academics, leadership, unit involvement, conduct, job performance, and personal appearance as determined by the NSI.

4. Honor Cadet - Awarded annually to the cadet in each Naval Science year group who has the highest school grade point average for the first three quarters of the academic year in which awarded.

5. CNET Unit Award - Awarded as earned to each cadet member in the Unit designated by the Area Four manager for this recognition. The Unit designated is limited to 10% of the Area Four Units who do not qualify for award of the Honor Unit award. To be awarded only to cadets in good standing.

6. Aptitude Award - Awarded annually to each cadet judged by the NSI/ANSI to be in the top 10% of the company in aptitude. The evaluation will be based on a combined average of leadership, conduct, unit involvement, personal appearance, and performance of assigned jobs. A distinguishing torch will be worn on the ribbon by the highest rated cadet in each Naval Science year group.

7. Naval Science 4 Outstanding Cadet - Awarded annually to each cadet who attains a 3.5 GPA in Naval Science 4 for the first three quarters of the school year.

8. Naval Science 3 Outstanding Cadet - Awarded annually to each cadet who attains a 3.5 GPA in Naval Science 3 for the first three quarters of the school year.

9. Naval Science 2 Outstanding Cadet - Awarded annually to each cadet who attains a 3.5 GPA in Naval Science 2 for the first three quarters of the school year.

10.Naval Science 1 Outstanding Cadet - Awarded annually to each cadet who attains a 3.5 GPA in Naval Science 1 for the first three quarters of the school year.

11.Exemplary Conduct - Awarded annually to each cadet who has demonstrated exemplary conduct in the unit, school and community during the year.

12.Academic Award - Awarded to the cadet who meets either of the following criteria:

When both criteria have been met, both lamps are positioned side-by-side on the ribbon. Stars for subsequent awards are worn outboard of the appropriate lamp.

13.Exemplary Personal Appearance - Awarded semi-annually to the cadet who has worn the uniform correctly on all required occasions, whose grooming has consistently met the Navy standard, and whose semester inspection grade average is 93% or higher. The ribbon may also be presented to selected cadets during the annual inspection.

14.Physical Fitness - Awarded as earned to the cadet who meets fitness exercise requirements contained in the Cadet Field Manual.

15.Participation - Awarded as earned to the cadet who has participated in each of three seperate, non-social, NJROTC sponsored events or activities designated by the NSI.

16.Unit Service - Awarded as earned for superior service to the Unit. The award may be for substained service at a level above that normally required of other cadets, or it may be for a specific act of superior service.

17.Community Service - Awarded as earned to the cadet who has contributed at least eight hours of satisfactory volunteer work towards a project or activity designated by the NSI/ANSI for "community service." Service normally must be as part of an NJROTC sponsored or recognized activity.

18.Drill Team - Awarded to the cadet member who has met the following criteria:

20.Rifle Team - Awarded semi-annually to the cadet member of the rifle team who has:

a) Passed with a score of 90% or higher, a test on shooting safety and range rules.

b) Participate in at least one posttal or head-to-head competition as a principal or alternate shooter.

c) Attend at least 80% of practice sessions in which shooting was scheduled, and all special practices scheduled for competition preparation, unless excused, by the Rifle Team Coach.

21.Orienteering - Awarded as earned to the cadet who meets the qualification requirements laid down by CNET in the Cadet Field Manual.

22.Recruiting - Awarded as earned to the cadet who is directly responsible for enrolling two new students in the NJROTC program.

23.Mini Boot Camp - Awarded as earned to the cadet who has successfully completed mini-boot camp, mini-OCS, NJROTC leadership academy, or a similar program of training designated by the NJROTC Area Fourmanager.

24.Sea Cruise - Awarded as earned to any cadet who has been to sea (under way) on a vessel as part of an NJROTC sponsored orientationn visit determined by the NSI.
